Research on the Application of Photodiode in the Washable Soft Fabrics of Communication System

 High-speed optoelectronic semiconductor devices are embedded in the optical fiber, including LED and photodiode detectors, making it a cleanable soft fabric for communication systems.    Traditionally, an optical fiber is composed of a cylindrical object called a "preform"-this object is basically an amplified optical fiber. Then the preform is heated to soften, the material is stretched or drawn under tension, and then the formed optical fiber is collected by a reel.

   The key breakthrough in manufacturing these new optical fibers is to embed a sand-sized semiconductor LED and a pair of copper wires with only a few hairs in the preform. During the fiber drawing process, the polymer preform is partially liquefied after being heated in the furnace to form a slender optical fiber. The semiconductor light-emitting diodes are arranged along the center of the fiber and are electrically connected by copper wires.

   The above-mentioned solid-state devices are two types of photodiodes manufactured using standard microchip technology, namely LEDs and photodiodes. During the fiber drawing process, the solid-state devices and copper wires maintain their original dimensions when the surrounding polymer material shrinks. Using this fabric similar to the processed optical fiber, this fabric can be washed many times to prove its practicality as a clothing material.

  The thin and soft optical fiber with embedded LED is made with new technology, and its function is demonstrated by switching the photodiode. A similar optical fiber is used to transmit music to a detection optical fiber that can work even under water. In the process of manufacturing the optical fiber, all the materials are not formed with liquid, but the device and the metal wire are mixed in the form of a particle.
